Bondo Community Rugby Launched

Scorpions community development officer, Irene Otienoh, a former Olympian for Kenya and an experienced international player, has taken on an inspiring mission in the area of Bondo, Kenya. With a vision to empower boys and girls through rugby, Otienoh has embarked on establishing a community rugby program.

The project aims to collaborate with local schools and communities, offering youngsters not only the opportunity to play rugby but also equipping them with essential life skills. This is a promising expansion of the Scorpions community development arm. Part of our mission to revitalise rugby in the East African area includes developing new community rugby programs and we have extended our financial assistance to the program and are actively collecting donated gear to support Irene’s efforts.

Irene’s journey as a rugby player has provided her with a firsthand understanding of the transformative power of sports. Drawing from her own experiences, she believes that rugby can be a catalyst for positive change, particularly in disadvantaged communities. Through her community rugby program, Otienoh is committed to imparting rugby skills while fostering important values such as teamwork, discipline, and resilience. By engaging boys and girls from Bondo and surrounding areas, she seeks to create a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes growth and personal development.

One of the key aspects of Otienoh's community rugby program is its collaboration with local schools and communities. Recognizing the importance of education, she believes that by working alongside educational institutions, the program can effectively reach out to underprivileged children and make a lasting impact. By incorporating rugby into the school curriculum and organizing training sessions and tournaments, the program aims to nurture the sporting talents of young boys and girls, providing them with an avenue for personal growth and achievement.

Recognizing the immense potential of the project, the Scorpions have provided financial assistance to help establish and sustain the program in Bondo.
