Scorpions success at pw15 Tournament
In the heart of Uganda's robust rugby scene, our Scorpions Development Officer, Atibu Saidi, is making an enormous impact. By empowering youth with the spirit of rugby, Saidi is not only building future rugby champions but also transforming communities.
Saidi, in a laudable act of community support, arranged for Meddy Mapesa and his teams from Bugembe to travel to the capital, Kampala, to participate in the PW15 tournament. Our Scorpions patrons were delighted to sponsor this opportunity and proudly supported the children's appearance and efforts at the tournament.
The young talents competed under the Scorpions banner, complete with Scorpions RFC gear, fielding three formidable teams in the Under 10 Under 13 and Under 15 categories. The under 13s and 15 sides advanced to the semi finals where they both lost out in narrow matches. In an exhilarating display of teamwork and skill, the Scorpions clinched victory in the Under 10 division, leaving their mark at the PW tag tournament. The final was won by a single point in extra time. Derrick Balidawa and Ageno Margie were were selected as the male and female MVPs respectively. Watch out for these names in the future.
The triumphant young stars shone brightly as they received their winning medals from none other than Uganda Rugby international star, Philip Wokorach. Their joy was palpable, their victory a testament to the power of community support and the transformative nature of sport.
This victory wouldn't have been possible without the dedicated coaching team – Meddy, Laurence, and Muhamed, who work tirelessly with the rugby development projects at Bugembe Rugby Club and in surrounding communities and schools. Special thanks to Peadar O Murchu and Niall Connaughton for their instrumental roles in organising the logistics, including arranging for the transportation of the participants from Jinja to Kampala.
For the second year running, the Scorpions have proudly supported the PW15 Foundation tournament and these rising talents. It is a reflection of their unwavering commitment to nurturing the bright future of East African rugby.
The victorious Under 10 team returned to their community as heroes, their cup held aloft as a symbol of their remarkable achievement. Their victory is not only a source of pride for the community but also a testament to the great work being done by Saidi and his team.
